Ghana Film Permit

Ghana visas and film permits can be a fairly difficult process. Usually with applications, there are a lot of channels that each application needs to go through – and so this may take some time. However, we are able to speed track a lot of this due to our long-standing relationship with the necessary departments, and we know how to navigate around any difficulties. Ghana is a beautiful and well-accessed location in terms of its requirements – a lot easier than other African countries. There are a variety of locations to shoot and be categorised into the Coastal Plain, Volta Basin, Ashanti-Kwahu and the Northern Plain. Filming permits generally apply to these areas, however, any request to film in certain specific locations depends on the production and the location itself.

Each member of the crew is required to have Media Accreditation. This requires paperwork (which we will handle!) Security clearances are also required. The paperwork can take anywhere between 2-5 days to be processed. Ghana is very accommodating to film crews, and all requests can be accomplished if given enough time to organise.

Drone restrictions are less strict in Ghana than other countries – however, there are certain areas of No-Fly Zones, which must be adhered to. All drones must be registered with the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). A permit is required for both an operator, and a Civil Aviation Certificate of Registration for the drone itself. It is a time-consuming process, however, we handle this to make it as painless and seamless as possible. Drone insurance is required. Any night-flying will need special authorization.
