Filming in Mauritius
Filming in Mauritius is sublime, as far as islands go. It is not only outstandingly beautiful, but it is also an island with a well-established industry, supported by the Mauritius Film Development Corporation- which provides incentives for crew to film here. From black volcanic landscapes to pearly white sandy beaches – this is your key to come film here.
The best time to film in Mauritius would be from June to August. These are the ideal months with the least amount of rain, but the heat will get you.

CUSTOMS AND EQUIPMENT
The country IS a member of the ATA Carnet system, so you can’t really get an easier process to bring in equipment. Barring that, there is a fair industry presence, and so it is possible to get basic grips and camera equipment here as well.
Drones are proibitted from entering the country without it being registered locally.
VISAS AND PERMITS
Filming in Mauritius is quite simple – especially getting in – as most passport holders can enter visa-free, or at the very least, receive one on arrival – with pre-arrangements made by us, a representative body on your behalf.
A general film visa is needed, through the MFDC. It is not a complicated process, but there is a fair amount of paperwork required. Film Fixers is able to navigate this process on your behalf, as we have built strong relationships with the authorities over time. Allow Film Fixers to secure your your Muritius film permit, or simply peruse our website for general information. Either way, we’re here to help!
Drone
Droning is very possible, however, it does come with restrictions from the CAA. It is quite expensive to register your drone through them – and so we advise you rent locally.

ACCESS AND AFFORDABILITY
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is the main terminal into Madagascar.
The roads in Mauritius are very well maintained – albeit, they do suffer flooding in the rainy season. Due to the topograpghy, the roads to tend to wind and narrow in various places – and with the large amounts of tourism – traffic is a big problem, especially during rush hour in the city centres.
Film Fixers highly recommends crews let us organize our local drivers who have experience navigating the many notorious roads of the African continent, as this ensures a smooth and safe experience for everyone involved and no issues with traffic police.
Mauritius can be very expensive, due to it being a high-end luxury holiday destination, and also due to it being a landlocked island with a very limited level of access. However, due to the lack of filming infrastructure, it is not expensive to film here – with very low production and location costs
Mauritius is quite safe as far as things are concerned. There are a few areas – like anywhere else in the world, where we advise you stay clear from – and in the centres, it is important to keep an eye on your belongings.
MFDC INCENTIVE
The Mauritius Film Development Corporation offers incentives and rebates varying between 30-40% on eligible filming expenditures.
