Filming in Seychelles

Filming in Seychelles can be both a beautiful, but a costly venture. These island landscapes with crystal waters and tropical vibes bring in a lot of tourism and investments, which do drive up costs. However, the payout is worth it. The country has a stable political climate, and it is VERY film friendly.

The best time to film in Seychelles would be from late May to Early October. These are the ideal months with very little rain, and is certainly the cooler months. Humidity to be expected!

CUSTOMS AND EQUIPMENT

The country is not a member of the ATA Carnet system, and so crew will need additional permits to bring in film equipment from abroad. As an island, there is not a lot of accessibility of industry gear – especailly as there is no real industry presence. This can be costly, however, Film Fixers Africa have worked applenty with various customs officials and freight forwarders – we are certain we can sort you out.

Drone

Drone import for Seychelles is possible, however, this requires you to register the drone to the CAA beforehand, and this can become very costly and time consuming. It is recommended to rent a local drone with(out) a pilot!

VISAS AND PERMITS

Visas and permits are as standard as it gets – you apply for a temporary work permit and submit it with various forms and documents.

It is not a complicated process, but there is a fair amount of paperwork required. Film Fixers is able to navigate this process on your crews behalf, as we have built strong relationships with the authorities over time. Allow Film Fixers to secure your crews’ Seychelles film permit, or simply peruse our website for general information. Either way, we’re here to help!

ACCESS AND AFFORDABILITY

Aéroport de la Pointe la Rue is the primary international terminal in Seychelles.

The roads in Seychelles are very well maintained, however, due  to the topograpghy, these roads can become very narrow and winding, which is a recipe for big traffic jams. 20min can become 1hr 20min very easily. The more rural roads are less paved, potholed and flood often. It is best to get a 4×4 vehicle.

Film Fixers highly recommends crews let us organize our local drivers who have experience navigating the many notorious roads of the African continent, as this ensures a smooth and safe experience for everyone involved and no issues with traffic police.

Seychelles has a very stable political climate and high-end international attraction. This makes it one of the safest places you can film in Africa – but this does come with a high cost of living and travelling.
Remember, poverty is still strife and present, so it is ideal to look after your personals, especially when attracting attention with flashy cameras.
